Sixth Grade Computer Science

In this class, students will continue to develop their keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation skills using the Microsoft Office Suite. Students are also introduced to recording written speeches and scripts using Visual Communicator to create broadcast quality videos. They create and edit their videos on a PC using Windows MovieMaker. They also explore creating presentations with ComicLife as well as presentations that include multimedia elements with PowerPoint. Finally, students complete a Scratch programming project in which they design a computer game. The projects for this class coincide with the projects in their social studies, English, and science classes. They also review KCD’s Technology Acceptable Use Policy and the consequences for inappropriate computer usage. This course meets once each week for the entire year.
