KCD Head of School Search Update: Finalists’ Visits

Dear Bearcat Community,

We hope your start of school has been smooth and joyful. This is a beautiful time of year, so full of energy and promise. The KCD Head of School Search Committee has been busy since our July update, and we are pleased to share good news.

The search for our long-term Head of School has been conducted following industry best practices. Many independent schools across the country are conducting searches at the same time we are. By launching our process last spring, KCD has optimally positioned itself to secure its next leader early in the typical hiring season for school heads. Though our new Head of School won’t officially join us until July 1, 2025, the timeline we adopted is ideal for securing our top choice. It will also allow our next leader time to make multiple trips to Louisville during the 2024-25 school year to meet constituents, attend events, and begin the process of imagining our future.

Our consultants from The Education Group (TEG) have spent months recruiting, identifying, and vetting candidates. From a pool of more than thirty applicants, TEG presented a slate of sixteen highly qualified educational leaders for consideration. Seven were selected and interviewed by the full Search Committee.

It is our pleasure to inform you that after a robust process that included several stages of interviews and multiple reference conversations, the Search Committee has selected finalists whom we feel most closely match our current needs, as delineated in our position profile. TEG is in the process of scheduling on-campus interviews, which we anticipate will begin in early September. As detailed agendas are finalized, we will share candidate bios along with specific opportunities for various constituencies to participate in this process.

We are eager for the Bearcat community to meet the candidates and for the candidates to get to know us. As you engage in this process, it is important to remember that while we are learning more about our finalists, they, too, are learning about us. Please join us in showing these distinguished guests the warmth, hospitality, and vibrancy of KCD, so that each finalist leaves campus with a positive impression.

Thank you for your support and participation.

Sincerely,

Dr. Swapna Chandran
