Director of Campus Safety & Security

Kentucky Country Day School has a current need for a Director of Campus Safety & Security. The Director of Campus Safety & Security is responsible for directing, coordinating, and managing campus security to ensure the safety of the people and property at Kentucky Country Day School. This is a full-time position that requires working a 12-month schedule.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patrol the campus at regular intervals to ensure high visibility, community safety, and respond to any identified needs.
  • Responsible for the supervision of a team of 4-6 full and part-time Security Officers and on campus, off-duty Police Officers. 
  • Organize and coordinate a comprehensive security/school safety program, including, but not limited to:
    • Being present to provide rapid response to campus threats and emergencies every day school is in session.
    • Creating and maintaining a public security schedule.
    • Ensuring procedures are in place to monitor and secure all entrances and exits of the school.
    • Providing training and instruction regarding crisis management, and safety & security protocols.
    • Manage and maintain all security infrastructure, including door lock systems, perimeter security, video and CCTV, visitor log-in systems, and emergency response tools.
    • Scheduling and enacting emergency drills (fire, severe weather, lockdown, etc.) with staff and Worthington Fire Department.
    • Reviewing and updating the Crisis Response Plan.                    
  • Work and develop security plans for major events that require security (i.e. KCDate, football games, Bearcat Festival, etc.) including providing additional security personnel for such events.
  • Work directly with the calendar committee to respond to the needs of various activities and events on campus (i.e. parking plans, coordinating doors, signage, lighting, etc.) to ensure the safety of the KCD community.
  • Foster and maintain close professional partnership with local law enforcement/first responders.
  • Manage carpool - drop off and pick-up.
  • Continuously conduct security assessments of the school and make recommendations to improve physical security (i.e. cameras, radios, etc.)
  • Work directly with Administration and HR when safety related issues arise, including communications with students, families, faculty, etc. Director of Campus Safety & Security and Security Officers will have no role in student or employee discipline matters.
  • Attend school meetings and events as necessary.
 
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years’ demonstrated professional work experience in in at least one of the primary fields relating to this position:
    • Law enforcement
    • Security
    • Risk management
    • Fire service
    • Emergency Management
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in various safety procedures.
  • Patience, courage, good judgment, approachability, reliability
  • Collaborative leader and team player with an engaging and positive nature.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with school leadership, parents, students, and employees both verbally and in writing in a timely manner
    Commitment to continual development of one’s cultural competence.
 
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Must be physically able to patrol campus and run in the event of an emergency.
  • Ability to work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
  • Ability to move around the campus quickly, as needed.
