Opera for the Young joins forces with 5th graders in a ‘stellar’ performance of Mozart’s Magic Flute on the KCD Theater stage

On Wednesday, March 26, Opera for the Young captivated a combined audience of 3rd, 4th, 5th graders and invited parents at Kentucky Country Day School with a reimagined performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute, set as an exciting adventure on an alien planet. True to the hallmark of an Opera for the Young production, elementary students played a central role in bringing this story to life.
The 5th-grade student chorus took center stage as The Dragon and the Alien Council of Wisdom, performing alongside their wise, three-headed leader, King Sarastro and the Brave Alien. Students worked very hard over the course of just three weeks to learn all their music and staging for the opera! Also featured was Ms. Gillian Hollis, Bearcat Singers and KCD Signing for Stage vocal coach, who returned to the KCD stage as Princess Pamina. This unique residency was collaboratively sponsored by the KCD Arts Guild, KCD Middle School and KCD Lower School. We are so grateful!
