Opening of Parsley Pavilion marks the completion of KCD’s Create Together Campaign

Members of the KCD community gathered to celebrate the official opening of the new Parsley Pavilion on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. This beautiful campus addition marked the final phase of the Create Together Campaign—a robust project that included the addition of the Meriwether STEAM Academic Center, renovations to KCD’s Athletics Center, JK-8 building, and facilities at Monohan Field.
“This incredible facility represents a step forward for our school’s athletic programs and the entire KCD community,” stated Amy Elliott, KCD Athletic Director. “The new Parsley Pavilion provides our student-athletes with a state-of-the-art space to prepare and build team spirit. It also provides another place on our campus for this community to come together while we support our student-athletes.”

The new pavilion—which features a concession stand, patron restrooms, three locker rooms, and a press box for Michael Field—proudly carries forward the Parsley name in memory of Jamie E. Parsley. Jamie was a beloved Kentucky Country Day scholar, athlete, and member of the class of 2003, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver prior to her senior (and 13th) year at KCD.

Present at the ribbon cutting ceremony were Jamie’s parents Arch and Kay Parsley and siblings Michelle and Brian. Some of Jamie’s closest friends and classmates from the class of 2003 were also in attendance; over the years these KCD alumni have remained steadfast in supporting the Parsley family and honoring Jamie’s legacy.

The KCD community is incredibly grateful for the leadership of the Parsley Family and Parco Constructors Group on this project. Throughout the planning process, school leadership met with the Parsley Family about the vision for the next iteration of the Parsley Pavilion. In his remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony, Interim Head of School Jon Kellam shared, “We wanted to ensure the legacy of Jamie lived on in a meaningful way. The family embraced and supported the vision for this new and improved Parsley Pavilion, and we are so grateful!”

Jamie was known by all as a conscientious student, a rock-solid field hockey player, a dependable teammate, and above all, a kind and caring individual. She was admired by her peers, loved by her teachers and coaches, and truly embodied the KCD motto of Citizen, Scholar, Steward

The dedication plaque from the original Parsley Pavilion is now prominently displayed beside the new concession stand and donor wall. Jamie’s legacy will continue to live on at KCD through the dedication of this building and through everyone in the community who knew her.

Special thanks to the many individuals who helped ensure this project moved forward from planning and design to the finishing touches: Adam Beckum (Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations and CFO), Gentry Easley (Director of Development), Amy Elliott (Athletic Director), the entire Parco Constructors team (including Brian Parsley, Dave Duncan, Leo Castro, and William Miller), and Potter Architects for their design work.
